One Design classes ROUND-UP OF THE LATEST NEWS

The competition season is steadily swinging into action and our Techno and O’pen Skiff classes are preparing for a “business as usual” race programme, with a full calendar of international events now confirmed. Here’s a round-up of the latest situation, once again demonstrating the dynamism of our One Design competition classes, with all the important dates to remember over the coming months.

TECHNO 293 OD & TECHNO 293 PLUS

World Sailing selects the Techno 293 PLUS for the Youth Sailing World Championships

World Sailing has once again selected the Techno 293 PLUS as the official board for the next World Sailing Youth World Championships, taking place in Oman from 11th to 18th December. Despite the rapid rise of foil sailing, the Techno 293 OD and the “PLUS” versions (8.5 m2 sail/50cm fin) are still benchmark boards of windsurfing all over the world and very much THE One-Design boards for young racers everywhere. TAHE will as usual be making “Charter” boards available in Oman for international competitors unable to bring their own equipment.

Big success at the Italian National Techno 293 OD Championships

Italy is one of very few countries that has managed to continue running numerous national competitions, two of which this spring were extremely successful despite of the covid restrictions. Judge for yourselves: 137 riders at La Lega Navale in Ostia at the end of March, then in early May, 237 riders at the Adriatico Wind Club on the Adriatic coast, excellent numbers! Yet another demonstration of the enduring popularity and dynamism of the Techno 293 OD class. At both events the young racers also had the chance to test the new Techno Wind Foil 130 boards we made available.

European and World Championships dates and confirmed

The Techno + season starts with the big one, the World Championships, scheduled for 10th to 15th August in Bodrum, Turkey. This will be quickly followed by the Techno 293 OD and Techno 293 PLUS European Championships from 21st to 28th August in Tallinn, Estonia. With an eye on the World Sailing Youth World Championships, coming up later in December, there are certain to be plenty of Techno 293 PLUS racers on the start line in both Bodrum and Tallinn!

To round the season off, the Techno 293 OD World Championships will take place at Torbole on Lake Garda, Italy, from 23rd to 30th October. Hundreds of riders are expected to attend this, the season’s flagship event.

O’PEN SKIFF | Record entry numbers for the O’pen Skiff World Championships 2021

The World Championships 2020, due to run last July in Sardinia, were carried forward to 2021, and with a couple of months still left before the event takes place, there are already nearly 200 racers registered.

2021 is looking like an excellent vintage, despite the difficulties for competitors from far-off countries like New Zealand, Japan and Australia to travel, due to
pandemic-related travel restrictions. Italy is one of the “capitals” of O’pen Skiff racing and these World Championships seem certain to be a big success.

On the other side of the Atlantic the O’pen Skiff, season has already started, with 54 young racers competing at the American Championships in Florida despite the difficulties due to pandemic restrictions.
